More than 21 million Americans have osteoarthritis. Approximately 2.1 million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.
Arthritis Symptoms Symptoms of arthritis include pain and limited function of joints. Inflammation of the joints from arthritis is characterized by joint stiffness, swelling, redness, and warmth. Tenderness of the inflamed joint can be present. Loss of range of motion and deformity can result. Certain forms of arthritis can also be associated with pain and inflammation of tendons surrounding joints."
With rheumatoid arthritis, there is a symmetrical pattern of affected joints. For example, both knees of a patient are usually affected rather than one knee."
Now for the part where the Cure, or Treatment, comes in.
I am not interested in a pharmaceutical treatment. Pharma meds have side effects and never seem to 'cure' much of anything.
Considering that often illness is brought on by poor dietary habits, and too much alcohol...I like to think that exercise, eating well, and drinking water as the preferred liquid will rebuild the body again. When one pays attention to one's body, one can often notice which foods and drink 'agitate' arthritic symptoms and inflamation.
I have found that eating processed white flour products (baked or fried) agitates arthritic symptoms. Homogenized, pasteurized milk and milk products (like ice-cream) also bring on the pain and inflamation associated with arthritis. Sugar products and alcohol somehow agitate the nerves in an arthritic condition.
That being said....I often go to "Today's Herbal Health" The Essential Reference Guide -by Louise Tenney, M.H. It has concise and comprehensive listings of herbs and their uses. Her book explains how specific herbs can bring beneficial changes to the necessary body systems.
My recipe for reducing arthritis symptoms (after avoiding the flour, milk, sugar and alcohol products), is to simply drink a cup of herbal tea, three to four times a day, a half hour before meals. The results will be noticed within two days. These products can usually be found at any fine quality health food store that sells bulk herbs.
Here are the ingredients for the herbal tea....to be taken with a Natural Factors 'Bromelain' capsule. Drink three times a day: Bring to boil in one quart water....let simmer ten minutes, and then turn off heat. Strain into a thermos to keep warm. Or put the herbs in a large thermos and fill with boiling water. Let sit with lid on tight and drink before meals. Make fresh herbal tea every third day. Alfalfa 1 tablespoon White Willow bark 1/2 teaspoon Slippery Elm 1/2 teaspoon Devil's Claw 1/2 teaspoon Horsetail 1/2 teaspoon Yarrow 1/2 teaspoon
For those who are thin, this will suffice. For those who are a little plump (let's just say not thin), you may also take one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with half glass of water ...each morning and evening. This will have an immediate effect to reduce arthritic symptoms also. Take both the herbal tea and organic apple cider vinegar drink daily.
After a few weeks the herbal tea and organic apple cider vinegar drink can be reduced to once a day, as the symptoms decrease. Remember that proper diet and exercise along with the herbal drinks will rebuild the injured areas over time. Take control out of the hands of Big Pharma, by taking responsibility for your own healing. Also, pay attention to which specific foods and drink agitate the arthritic symptoms. Then avoid or reduce those foods.
Diet recommendations:
What can high-omega-3 foods do for you? (seal oil, salmon oil, flax seed oil, hemp seed oil, walnut seed oil)
Reduce inflammation throughout your body
Keep your blood from clotting excessively
Maintain the fluidity of your cell membranes
lower the amount of lipids (fats such as cholesterol and triglycerides) circulating in the bloodstream
inhibit thickening of the arteries by decreasing endothelial cells' production of a platelet-derived growth factor (the lining of the arteries is composed of endothelial cells)
increase the activity of another chemical derived from endothelial cells (endothelium-derived nitric oxide), which causes arteries to relax and dilate
reduce the production of messenger chemicals called cytokines, which are involved in the inflammatory response associated with atherosclerosis
reduce the risk of becoming obese and improve the body's ability to respond to insulin by stimulating the secretion of leptin, a hormone that helps regulate food intake, body weight and metabolism, and is expressed primarily by adipocytes (fat cells)
Cruciferous Vegetables (present in this food group is one group of phytonutrients-the glucosinolates) http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=264 Cruciferous vegetables that heal ulcers and prevent cancers: broccoli*, red cabbage*, kale*, collard greens*, Brussels sprouts, kohlabi...
All, when eaten raw, or steamed, "contain some key isothiocyanates that form after the glucosinolates have been acted upon by myrosinase enzymes. For every specific glucosinolate, there are corresponding anti-cancer compounds produced following action of the myrosinase enzyme." These vegetables also contain Sulforaphane which has been found in clinical studies to destroy the H Pylori bacteria often responsible for peptic (stomach) and duodenal ulcers.
