Rudrakshas are purported to possess powerful electromagnetic, paramagnetic and inductive properties. It is said that the healing powers of rudraksha beads flow from their electro-magnetic properties.
This story recalls a particular rudraksha necklace that a helpful Swamini designed and assembled for me while in the Amritapuri ashram in India. I had hopes of purchasing and later wearing it. The trick was that I was to give it to the Mahatma, Amma, to wear for a while... as a kind of blessing. However, when one actually gives a gift to a saint, one is not supposed to expect to have it back again. So, I was wondering whether or not the beaded necklace would be returned once I gave it to Amma.
The curious part was when I went to give the beaded necklace to Amma to wear, she smiled at me and said: "Is this for me, or for you?" She had caught me, and I was left dumbfounded. Because, if she simply gave it back to me, without putting it around her own neck, I would not have the unique memory of her wearing it for awhile. I was so embarrassed that I replied: "Its for both you and I." I mean how stupid is that kind of a reply!
She seemed to know what was going on and, without my telling her, proceeded to wear it. She then made certain that I received it back, later on that day. And that is the significant memory that now comes with those rudraksha beads.
