Quielty Asking: "Who Am I?"
http://www.blissful-wisdom.com/quietly-asking-who-am-i.html
As time goes by, knowledge of one's true identity becomes important...does it not?
Sitting still and without thinking, simply asking "Who am I?", and then quietly noticing.
It is an opportunity....that is all.

Osho speaks about Topics regarding the Mind
People come to me and they ask, “How to attain a peaceful mind?” I say to them, “There exists nothing like that: peaceful mind. Never heard of it.”Mind is never peaceful; no-mind is peace. Mind itself can never be peaceful, silent. The very nature of the mind is to be tense, to be in confusion. Mind can never be clear, it cannot have clarity, because mind is by nature confusion, cloudiness. Clarity is possible without mind, peace is possible without mind; silence is possible without mind, so never try to attain a silent mind. If you do, from the very beginning you are moving in an impossible dimension.
Osho, Tantra: The Supreme Understanding, Talk #2
Remember always that whatsoever is happening around you is rooted in the mind. Mind is always the cause. It is the projector, and outside there are only screens – you project yourself. If you feel it is ugly then change the mind. If you feel whatsoever comes from the mind is hellish and nightmarish, then drop the mind. Work with the mind, don’t work with the screen; don’t go on painting it and changing it. Work with the mind. But there is one problem, because you think you are the mind. So how can you drop it? So you feel you can drop everything, change everything, repaint, redecorate, rearrange, but how can you drop yourself. That is the root of all trouble. You are not the mind, you are beyond mind. You have become identified, that’s true, but you are not the mind. And this is the purpose of meditation: to give you small glimpses that you are not the mind. If even for a few moments the mind stops, you are still there! On the contrary, you are more, overflowing with being. When the mind stops it is as if a drainage which was continuously draining you has stopped. Suddenly you are overflowing with energy. You feel more! If even for a single moment you become aware that the mind is not there but “I am,” you have reached a deep core of truth. Then it will be easy to drop the mind. You are not the mind, otherwise how can you drop yourself? The identification has to be dropped first, then the mind can be dropped.

The next video is more blunt....but is asking the viewer to look deeper and be much more real about everything ....both the inner reality and the reality of world events.
"Do not believe in anything, simply because you have heard it. Do not
believe in anything, simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do
not believe in anything because it is found written in your religious
books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your
teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been
handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis,
when you find anything that agrees with reason and is conducive to the
good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
(Siddhartha Gautama)
(The Buddha)

In a book edited by David Godman (no pun intended), he quotes Ramana Maharishi, one of India's greatest saints, who put it this way:
"The thought 'I am this body of flesh and blood' is the one thread on which are strung the various other thoughts. Therefore, if we turn inwards inquiring 'Where is this I ?' all thoughts (including the 'I-thought') will come to an end and Self-knowledge will then spontaneously shine forth."
Here are some past references to this state of Knowledge in a book titled "The World's Wisdom" by Philip Novak:
- Abu-Yazid Al-Bastami (died ca. 874) an early Persian Sufi
"I Am He"
'I sloughed off my self as a snake sloughs off its skin. Then I looked into myself and saw that I am He.'
"Not Two"
'For thirty years God was my mirror, now I am my own mirror. What I was, I no longer am, for "I" and "God" are a denial of God's unity. Since I no longer am, God is his own mirror. He speaks with my tongue, and I have vanished.'
"Self and God"
'Forgetfulness of self is remembrance of God.'
-Al-Hallaj (888-922) Sufi mystic
"I saw my lord with the eye of the heart. I said: Who art Thou? He answered: Thou."
- Abu Sa'id Ibn Abi'l Khayr (967-1049) Persian mystic and poet
'Even on the Path to God, All is God'
'You are freed from your own desires only when God frees you. This is not effected by your own exertion, but by the grace of God. First he brings forth in you the desire to attain this goal. Then he opens to you the gate of repentance. Then....you continue to strive and...pride yourself upon your efforts, thinking that you are advancing or achieving something; but afterward you fall into despair and feel no joy. Then you know your work is not pure but tainted. You repent of acts of devotion which you had thought were your own, and perceive that they were done by God's grace and that you were guilty of polytheism in attributing them to your own exertion. When this becomes manifest, a feeling of joy enters your heart... God opens to you the gate of love... But still you think "I love" and find no rest until you perceive that it is God who loves you and keeps you in the state of loving, and that this is the result of divine love and grace, not of your own endeavor. Then God opens to you the gate of unity, and causes you to know that all action depends on God Almighty. Hereupon you perceive that all is God, and all is by him, and all is his (even) this self-conceit... Then you entirely recognize that you do not have the right to say "I" or "mine". At this stage you behold your helplessness; desires fall away from you and you become free and calm. You desire what God desires; your own desires are gone, you are emancipated from your wants, and have gained peace and joy in both worlds. First, action is necessary, then knowledge, in order that you may know that you know nothing and are no one. This is not easy to know. It is a thing that cannot be rightly learned by instruction, or sewed on with needle, or tied on with thread. It is the gift of God.'
Self-inquiry:
Be still and ask:
Who is the 'I' that assumes the role of doer-ship?
Where is this 'I' that assumes it is separate from Source?
Who is meditating on whom?
Who realizes whom?
Who is the I? Whom does the 'I-thought' refer to?
If truth weren't present every moment, it wouldn't be true
